MP3: Fol Chen - Cable TV (Liars Remix)
About the director:
Chris Wilcha is the only living person whos directed both Ira Glass and Mr. T. Wilcha won two Emmy awards for directing and co-executive producing a TV version of Glass acclaimed NPR radio show This American Life for Showtime. He has also directed promos, pilots and short films for MTV, PBS, Sundance Channel and TV Land, including The Social History of the Mosh Pit, Second Hand Stories and, with the aforementioned T., I Pity The Fool. His first-person video diary The Target Shoots First, about his tenure in the marketing department at
the mail order CD and tape club Columbia House in the early 1990s, won lots of festival awards, was screened internationally and broadcast on Cinemax.
A Transmission from Fol Chen:
You know that mysterious black object that the creepy family is staring at on the cover of Led Zeppelins album? Fol Chen sound like that. But we dont sound like Led Zeppelin. (We actually do
a little.) Instead, we sound like Prince with Amon Duul II and a childrens religious revival, not to mention Hot Chip, Pink Floyd, Gwen Stefani, Pere Ubu, Danielson Famile, Scritti Politti, Boards of Canada, The Blow, and Pulp. (Mostly.) We are using secret powers and the guidance of legendary DJ Donna Donna to combat our nemesis, John Shade. We are cryptic and joyful and we would like you to dance.
The Story of Fol Chen:
Traffic was thick, thick, thick and Samuel Bing was unwell, strung out on the latest psychotropic fads: sleeplessness and feeling crummy. The Northern State was crawling like a funeral procession for Robert Moses. Above the overpasses, the clouds were lined with gristle. Even the horizon seemed to be sinking. So, it came just in time when Donna Donna transmitted her message over the open radio waves - a phantom broadcast from a station whose signal had long since dissolved into static. You could barely hear her voice between the Crazy Eddie ads, but Samuel Bing had his radio loud. She spoke backwards for security, but Samuel Bing understood each word. Initiates in the society of Fol Chen, Donna Donna whispered, s get to it. While you sit in traffic, John Shade is busy spreading his black mischief. Heres the Screamer of the Week: Birds Fly by Icicle Works. Samuel Bing turned off his car and opened his trunk. No one was moving, so no one bothered honking. His trunk was filled with what looked like garbage, but this wasnt just any piled crap Every object was a module in a greater, yet-to-be-created whole. Samuel Bing fished out a cassette tape and a broken ice-scraper. He inspected the sides of each, found the hidden grooves, snapped them together. He grabbed a faded Polaroid, an old paperback romance, a polyester potholder, and a pair of drugstore sunglasses. He snapped each edge to edge. He chose twelve items, then another six, and arranged all eighteen in interlocking circles that together formed a wider circle. Just to be safe Samuel Bing welded the grooves with a cigarette lighter, slapped the whole thing on his back. From beneath a crusty blanket where the spare tire should have been, he pulled a wide, machete-like sword, and shoved it in his belt. Then Samuel Bing leapt into the air and let the currents carry him.
Melissa Thorne and Phat Jeph were waiting in room 12A when Samuel Bing landed in the parking lot of the Desert Hot Springs Hotel Spa. This is where they met in times of elevated risk - when the Highland Park compound was out of the question. Phat Jeph was ripped on peppermint schnapps, but he was a gentle, melancholy kind of drunk, and hard to deal with sober, so Melissa Thorne made sure his glass stayed full. Samuel Bing didnt bother knocking. He already had a key. He searched the bathroom, looked under the bed. Where are the others? he asked. G-Bone and Wass are on the way, said Melissa Thorne. What about
Baby Alex? asked Samuel Bing. But they fell silent, just stared at the rug. Samuel Bing poured himself a schnapps and asked what happened, though he knew the answer. John Shade got him, Phat Jeph slurred. Samuel Bing gripped the pommel of his sword. We dont have time for this, said Melissa Thorne, and elbowed Phat Jeph in the ribs. Okay, heres the idea, he said. We have to build a serious pyramid. That way we can measure the stars, the distances between them. Like the Aztecs and the Incas and King Tutankhamen. We have to take this battle to Shade. ve drawn up some plans, said Melissa Thorne. She pushed the blueprints across the filthy bedspread. You in? Samuel Bing smiled for the first time all week. He pulled his sword from his belt, tested the blade with his thumb, nodded. m in.

Antidepressant brain zaps cause more people to go back on the drug or increase their dosage again. This does not have to be the case if The Road Back Program is followed. Many people have gained excessive amount of weight while taking Celexa, Cymbalta, Effexor, Lexapro, Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft and other antidepressants. You may very well find weight begins to come off during the period we call the Pre-Taper.
Anti-psychotics, while being in a class of their own, can be handled effectively.
If you are not sure if you can get off your medication due to side effects, just follow the pre-taper procedure and see if you do not feel like a new person. Then decide. Click here
Anxiety, insomnia and or fatigue are the three major side effects most people have and these three side effects are what is causing most of the other side effects you have.
Take one moment here and imagine how you would feel at this moment in time if you did not have anxiety or fatigue and you were able to have a full night of sleep. How would you feel? And this is just the beginning of what can be for you once again.
You will read how to taper off antidepressants, anti-psychotics, benzodiazepines, sleep medications and ADHD medications. The information includes how to taper off these medications with little to no side effects.
To find all of the information you will need, click here and you will be directed to another page within this site. The Road Back book, How to Get Off Psychiatric Drugs Safely is available on this site, in full, for free.
Dr. Donald E. McAlpine, Psychiatry and Psychology, Mayo Clinic.: s important to taper off slowly, extending the taper over several weeks under your physicians direction. When you stop too quickly, you may experience so-called discontinuation symptoms, which can masquerade as relapse.
Information covered:
How to withdrawal, get off or quit taking;
Antidepressants - Celexa withdrawal, Cymbalta withdrawal, Effexor withdrawal, Lexapro withdrawal, Luvox withdrawal, Paxil withdrawal, Prozac withdrawal, Remeron withdrawal, Strattera withdrawal, Trazodone withdrawal, Wellbutrin withdrawal, Zoloft withdrawal
Benzodiazepines - Sleep Medication - Ambien withdrawal, Ativan withdrawal, BuSpar withdrawal, Klonopin withdrawal, Librium withdrawal, Valium withdrawal, Xanax withdrawal
Anti-Psychotics - Abilify withdrawal, Clozaril withdrawal, Geodon withdrawal, Haldol withdrawal, Olanzapine withdrawal, Risperdal withdrawal, Seroquel withdrawal, Zyprexa withdrawal
ADHD Medication - Adderall withdrawal, Concerta withdrawal, Ritalin withdrawal, Strattera withdrawal
Withdrawal off psychiatric medication, as long as it is done with a structured program, does not have to be difficult. The structured withdrawal program must address the potential withdrawal side effects, existing withdrawal side effects, and include a gradual reduction of the medication. Any program that does not address all aspects will have undesirable results.

One of the key improvements will be better multithreading support. Today, graphics drivers have some minor level of multithreading support, but it only goes so far. The DirectX runtime itself is still single-threaded, and can often be the bottleneck preventing games from running as fast as they could. In DX11, resources will be loaded asynchronously and in parallel, concurrent with rendering. Draw and state submissions will be multithreaded, too.
All this should help spread the graphics setup load out across multiple CPU cores, helping developers make better use of the multi-core CPUs of today and tomorrow. It may also enable games to use more resources without bogging down quite as much as they do today. DirectX 11 hardware will support all this stuff, but even DX10 hardware, with the right drivers, can get lots of the new multithreaded enhancements (though not quite to the same performance level of new DX11 hardware).
The next important addition is Tessellation. This is one feature that will not be supported on DX10 hardware in any way. It actually requires new hardware, and the tessellation hardware built into modern ATI GPUs doesn't quite cut it.
Tessellation is the act of breaking up a lower-polygon mesh or model into a whole lot of polygons, making it smoother and more detailed in appearance. There are lots of methods for doing this in 3D graphics, and the tessellation functions of DX11 are designed to be flexible enough to support most of them. First, the new hull shader takes control points for a patch as an input.
Note that this is the first appearance of patch-based data used in DirectX. The output of the hull shader tells the stage how much to tessellate. The tessellator itself is a fixed function unit, taking the outputs from the hull shader and generating the added geometry. The domain shader then calculates the vertex positions from the tessellation data, which is passed to the geometry shader. It's fully programmable, so you can get the optimal tessellated output depending on distance from the camera, angle, or other factors the 3D engine programmer may choose.
The benefit of all this is to allow complex geometry to be generated on the graphics card, requiring a much smaller amount of data to be sent over the bus or retrieved from memory. It's a superset of the features in the Xbox 360's tessellator unit, so game developers using that can get the same results from the same data sets on the PC, with DirectX 11 hardware.

I know what you’re thinking: another cheesy, goody-two-shoes article on how I can keep all those goals I’ve set going into 2009. If you abhor such articles (like 10 ways to declutter your bathroom), then keep on reading. I’m like you. Normal.
1. Bribe yourself.
A so-called parenting expert that I read last week claimed that bribing your kid to get him to do something was an example of irresponsible and ineffective parenting. I suspect that the same man sits in his quiet and tidy little office cranking out advice like that while either his wife or nanny is home doing the dirty work. Let’s face it. Bribing is one of the most effective tools to get anyone—your kid, your stubborn mother, your golden retriever, or yourselfto do something.
My running coach used this brilliant method to train me to run 18 miles. Before our run, he hid Jolly Ranchers along our route, every two miles, so he’d say to me when I wanted to stop, “In another half-mile, you get a treat! Come on, you can do it!” And like a rat spotting a half-eaten hotdog, I’d run to the candy. You want to make sure you stick to your resolution? Bribe yourself along the road there: at the one-fourth mark, one-half mark, and three-quarters mark.
2. Team up.
Think of the buddy system from Boy Scouts. Teaming up with someone means that you have to be accountable. You have to report to someone. Which brings down your percentage of cheating by 60 percent, or something like that. Especially if you’re a people-pleaser like me. You want to be good, and get an A, so make sure someone is passing out such reviews.

Honestly it is the kind of tired I had with bad depression, but we'll keep that on the back burner until we know there is no physical reason for it. They already upped my anti-depressant (because of increased depression) and anti-anxiolytic (for sleep since they took me off of the sleep aid I had taken forever because we were trying to weed out some drugs that might worsen the dryness I experience orally, ocularly and-um-vaginally). But I'm going to ask about raising the Effexor XR once again, lowering the cloanzepam back to what it was and going back on the Trazodone at a half of the dose I had been on. (I like chemistry, lol.

My girlfriend and I have been together for over 3 years, and have lived together for a little over a year. Were just as good as married, but neither one of us believes in formal marriage. Shes always been a bit of a livewire, but Im a calm and nurturing enough person that its never been much of a problem. But lately, it seems like her behavior is getting worse. Shes literally in a permanent state of being extremely stressed out. She says herself, that she just has a constant general feeling of hopelessness. She looks for the littlest possible concern, and obsesses about it until she either starts crying, or throws a fit of anger, before moving onto the next minuscule detail to obsess about. And when she cries, its not light sobbing. Shes actually bawling for hours like shes lost a loved one, over things like having to spend $6.79 on library late fees. Her angry moods come up out of nowhere, sometimes for absolutely no reason whatsoever, m just in a bad mood!. And when these moods come, she starts banging and throwing things (not violently, just enough to let you know shes pissed), and becomes very snappy and overly-aggressive toward me. I make sure to use calm tones and try to be as understanding as possible, but she exploits that weakness and uses the opportunity to pretty much verbally abuse me. Im a very hardy person, so Ive been able to take her mood swings rather well Up until recently. Before, her mood swings would come every couple weeks, and the times in between would be perfectly fine and happy. But lately, shes been in a constant state of her mood-swinging every single day, and the times in-between arent happy, I would consider them to be neutral or indifferent at best. And thats the part that gets to me. I have to go entire days at a time without once feeling appreciated, or that my company is even wanted. Our sex-life is a dead stop, which only damages my self-esteem even more. But despite all this, she says she doesnt want to break up. In fact, the thought brings her to tears (not that thats hard to do). But I can only take so much emotional abuse.
Her symptoms very closely match GAD, or General Anxiety Disorder (http://www.webmd.com/anxiety-panic/guid e/generalized-anxiety-disorder), and I think that if she see a therapist, combined with some sort of anxiety medicine, that we can both be happy again. She recognizes that she has a problem, but she thinks she can just will it away on her own, and that a therapist isnt going to be able to help. Im almost certain that she needs treatment, but if I bring it up to her, it just sets her off.
Im at a complete and total loss. I feel like a beautiful thing is dying because of a treatable condition.
can jaundice be willed away. or will diabetes go away if you ignore it? then why think a mental problem is any different. i wont even suggest therapy. i would suggest going to a shrink, who will give her the medications and maybe recommend a therapist i the need arises. but make sure she gets a shrink she likes.

The purpose of this piece is not to attempt a full critique or history of this occurrence, but to merely present some of the glaring problems of this movement, as I believe significant harm is being done to patients under the guise of modern psychiatric treatment. I am a psychiatrist trained in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and I use both psychotherapy and medications in my approach to patients. I state these facts to make it clear that this is not an antipsychiatry tract, and I am speaking from within the field of psychiatry, although I find it increasingly impossible to identify with this profession, for reasons which will become clear below.
Biologic psychiatrists as a whole are unapologetic in their view that they have found the road to the truth, namely that mental illnesses for the most part are genetic in origin and should be treated with biologic manipulations, i.e., psychoactive medications, electroconvulsive treatment (which has made an astounding comeback), and in some cases psychosurgery. Although they admit a role for environmental and social factors, these are usually relegated to a secondary status. Their unquestioning confidence in their biologic paradigms of mental illness is truly staggering. So what are the limitations of biologic psychiatry? First of all, medications lessen symptoms, they do not treat mental illness per se. This distinction is crucial. Symptoms by definition are the surface presentation of a deeper process. This is self-evident. However, there has been a vast and largely unacknowledged effort on the part of modern (i.e., biologic) psychiatry to equate symptoms with mental illness. It is an absolute myth created by modern psychiatry that these actually exist as discrete entities that have a cause and treatment. This is essentially a pseudo-scientific enterprise that grew out of modern psychiatrys desire to emulate modern medical science, despite the very real possibility that psychic pain, because of its existential nature, may always elude the capture of modern medical discourse and practice..What is left completely out, of course, are any notions that our psychic ills are a reflection of cultural pathology. In fact, this new biologic psychiatry can only exist to the extent it can deny not only the truths of psychoanalysis, but also the truths of any serious cultural criticism. It is then no surprise that this psychiatry thrives in this country presently, where such denials are rampant and deeply embedded.Patients these days are not suffering from biologic illnesses. What I generally see is patients suffering from current or past violence, traumatic loss, loss of power or control over their lives and the effects of cultural fragmentation, isolation and impoverishment that are specific to this culture at this time. How this manifests in any individual is absolutely specific; therefore, one should resist any attempt to generalize or classify, as science forces us to do. Once you go down the route of generalization, you have ceased listening to the patient and the richness of their lived experience. ..Having said this, what I am advocating is a psychiatry which devotes itself humbly to the task of listening to patients in a way that other medical practitioners cannot. This means paying close attention to a patients current and past narrative without attempting to control, manipulate or define it. From this position a psychiatrist can then assist the patient in raising relevant questions about their lives and pain.
The temptation to provide answers or false solutions should be absolutely avoided here. Medications are used judiciously for lowering painful symptoms, with considerable attention paid to the psychological effects of medication treatment. Diagnosis should play a secondary and small role here, given that little is known about what these diagnoses actually mean. Above all suggestion, coercion, normalization and control need to be assiduously guarded against, as these are natural temptations that arise out of the dynamics of power that exist between psychiatrist and patient..

Taylor Jacobs Jersey Dude This guy was sitting in front of me at the bar yesterday. And yes, I used my vast stalker skillz to take a sheisty photo of him from under the hightop where I was seated.
Mike Sellers Reaching the ball out into a mass of opposing players is usually a bad idea. Although if the ball never crossed the goalline, then shouldn’t that have been a safety? Unless the refs ruled that a) Sellers never crossed the line, b) his forward progress wasn’t stopped, c) he fumbed the ball forward, over the line, where it was recovered. I have a difficult time believe all three of those were true.
Jason Campbell I’ve defended him all season, but he just wasn’t very sharp yesterday (again), missing open receivers and appearing somewhat baffled by the fucking Bengals.
Chris Cooley Fumbles on the third play of the game, leading to a Cincy TD and flashbacks of the previous week.
Shaun Suisham Pack your shit and get the fuck out.
Carlos Rogers Burned for a TD on a sloppy double move by Chris Henry that may not have worked against Jamie in tennis shoes during our annual Turkey Bowl game last month.
Antwaan Randle El Still running backwards on punt returns.
MEDIUM:
Fans There are two ways to look at this: 1) this team fucked us, again, and we should be angry; 2) at least now we don’t have to give a shit the rest of the season. I’m somewhere between these two.
Clinton Portis Did what he could with what he was given … which wasn’t much.

Heart Will Go On, Celine Dion. This was very easy to get sick of as well; cloying and over-the-top and insisting on its own epic greatness. Blurg. The music's pretty; I have a string quartet version that didn't make it onto the soundtrack (from a promo CD) that's lovely. It doesn't need Celine Dion or lyrics to work. It sounds better without them.
My Favorite Nominee: Ray of Light, Madonna. I don't have much to say about it, but it works.
My Favorite Single That Year: Flagpole Sitta, Harvey Danger. That song just makes me feel awesome. I love it.

It's like America went through menopause and could only listen to this kind of sappy pap. I hate this thing, and thanks to the Crap and Crap Lite stations being played where I worked constantly, I heard it way too many fucking times.
My Favorite Nominee: MMMBop, Hanson. It's a default choice; it's the one I think is okay whereas I despise all the others (especially "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone" by Paul Cole, which should be classified a form of abuse).
My Favorite Single That Year: The End Is the Beginning Is the End, Smashing Pumpkins. I love that they used it in the Watchmen trailer.
1997
Winner: Change the World, Eric Clapton. I'm not much of a Clapton fan, really. I did like this song, although it's association with the awful Scientology-promoting John Travolta film Phenomenon counts against it a tad. It's not earth-shaking, but it's a solid, not-unpleasant song.
My Favorite Nominee: 1979, Smashing Pumpkins. Haunting, beautiful, and bittersweet.
My Favorite Single That Year: 1979, Smashing Pumpkins.
1996
Winner: Kiss from a Rose, Seal. I think it's a beautiful song. I used to hear it a lot on the radio as I was driving to work in the winter at a very dark 5 in the morning. That's the perfect time to hear it. It'll take you on a trip.
My Favorite Nominee: Kiss from a Rose, Seal.
My Favorite Single That Year: Kiss from a Rose, Seal.
1995
Winner: All I Wanna Do, Sheryl Crow. Blurg. Not a song I like.
My Favorite Nominee: Streets of Philadelphia, Bruce Springsteen. Beautiful, sad, and seething with quiet ange, disappointment, and acceptance of fear.
My Favorite Single That Year: Streets of Philadelphia, Bruce Springsteen.
1994
Winner: I Will Always Love You, Whitney Houston. Piece of overplayed shit. Especially in comparison to the original Dolly Parton song, which is perfect.
My Favorite Nominee: The River of Dreams, Billy Joel.
My Favorite Single That Year: Fields of Gold, Sting. Kind of a cheesy choice, perhaps, but I can always hear it and always love it. It's simple and pretty.
1993
Winner: Tears in Heaven, Eric Clapton. It doesn't quite hold up for me, honestly, but it's miles better than fellow nominee "Achy Breaky Heart." It's a very pretty song, but not my favorite of Clapton's.
My Favorite Nominee: Constant Craving, k.d. lang. I like the passion.
My Favorite Single That Year: One, U2. One of the most achingly beautiful songs I've ever heard.
1992
Winner: Unforgettable, Natalie Cole. The fact that the Grammys honored that hacky, schlocky, sympathy-begging, cloying bit of grave-robbing Natalie Cole did to cash in on honor her father is as sad as it is unsurprising.
My Favorite Nominee: Losing My Religion, R.E.M. It was overplayed, but if you listen to it now, it sounds almost fresh again. It really is just a good song.
My Favorite Single That Year: Crazy, Seal.
1991
Winner: Another Day in Paradise, Phil Collins. Preachy, annoying, and not even the best song from that Phil Collins album. (Actually, I just checked and sadly, it is. I despise "Something Happened on the Way to Heaven," and "I Wish It Would Rain" just sounds like a rip-off of "Wish You Were Here" with Clapton on guitar.)
My Favorite Nominee: Nothing Compares 2 U, Sinead O'Connor. Of the sappy, preachy, sad sack songs that were nominated this year, this is the one that's actually a good song. (Also, "U Can't Touch This" was nominated this year, but come on, man.)
My Favorite Single This Year: Enjoy the Silence, Depeche Mode. Now there's a love song.
1990
Winner: Wind Beneath My Wings, Bette Midler. I hate this song, and my dad pissed me off by playing it at his wedding reception for his mother, which I specifically told him not to do because it was such a fucking cliche. He said he wouldn't; he did. Wow, my grandma must have been one of 10 million special woman so uniquely honored that year. It's the equivalent of buying your dad a tie on Father's Day.
My Favorite Nominee: The End of the Innocence, Don Henley. Chance is right on when he calls it deceptively angry. It adds some world-weariness on top of that, too. Beautiful song.
My Favorite Single That Year: A Little Respect, Erasure. I usually come out on the side of pop, I guess. Although besides the catchiness, I think the lyrics are beautiful. One of my all time favorite lyrics comes from this song: "What religion or reason could drive a man to forsake his lover?"
1989
Winner: Don't Worry, Be Happy, Bobby McFerrin. I always liked this song, but it sure wasn't the best of the year. I think part of it was the novelty of McFerrin doing the whole thing a cappella. Which is admittedly neat.
My Favorite Nominee: Don't Worry, Be Happy, Bobby McFerrin.
My Favorite Single That Year: Sweet Child O' Mine, Guns 'n' Roses. The most perfect song they ever recorded.
1988
Winner: Graceland, Paul Simon. I'm not a big fan of this song for whatever reason. It's nice, but it's okay. I wouldn't turn it off if it came on the radio station. Really, I just don't dig Paul Simon's solo work that much.
My Favorite Nominee: Back in the High Life Again, Steve Winwood. Admittedly, mostly because it reminds me of better times. But it's pretty.
My Favorite Single That Year: With or Without You, U2. Grammy nominated the more ubiquitous and much less beautiful "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," a song I don't like. "With or Without You" is real passion.
1987
Winner: Higher Love, Steve Winwood. Meh. It's okay.
My Favorite Nominee: Sledgehammer, Peter Gabriel. It's a lot of sucky nominees this year, but this is a great song.
My Favorite Single That Year: True Colors, Cyndi Lauper. A beautiful love song, especially for people who don't feel so great about themselves. I guess I like genuine songs about understanding, I would say.
1986
Winner: We Are the World, USA for Africa. Of course. Nothing else was going to win this year. As a song, it's okay. The real fun is trying to pick out all the singers. I mean, you know, it's Really Important, but it's just okay.
My Favorite Nominee: Money for Nothing, Dire Straits. One of their couple of songs I like. One of my favorite guitar solos.
My Favorite Single That Year: Take on Me, a-Ha. Pop perfection in all of its catchy, bubblegum glory.
1985
Winner: What's Love Got to Do with It, Tina Turner. There's genuine force behind it (although I think "Private Dancer" is her best song), real heartbreak.
My Favorite Nominee: Dancing in the Dark, Bruce Springsteen. At his most pop. I love this song.
My Favorite Song That Year: Time After Time, Cyndi Lauper. Gorgeous and simple.
1984
Winner: Beat It, Michael Jackson. Not much of a surprise, I guess. And it's a good song. Eddie Van Halen's guitar solo alone...
My Favorite Nominee: Flashdance... What a Feeling, Irene Cara. All of the nominees this year are pretty good but nothing I feel especially attached to. This is one of those cheesy pop songs I like.
My Favorite Single That Year: Our House, Madness. One of the most perfect songs I've ever loved.
1983
Winner: Rosanna, Toto. It's okay.
My Favorite Nominee: Steppin' Out, Joe Jackson. That one always got me and carried me off.
My Favorite Single That Year: Under Pressure, Queen David Bowie. Everything that's shitty about society in four and a half minutes. "And love dares you to care for the people on the edge of the night."
1982
Winner: Bette Davis Eyes, Kim Carnes. Meh. I don't feel strongly either way.
My Favorite Nominee: (Just Like) Starting Over, John Lennon. What a great song. I can't believe it lost to Kim Carnes... greatness versus... well, nothing worth commenting on. As usual, John Lennon just nails life and relationships with this song.
My Favorite Single This Year: In the Air Tonight, Phil Collins. Collins used to be a man who just knew darkness and how it felt to be depressed and angry.
1981
Winner: Sailing, Christopher Cross. Put me to sleep, why don't ya?
My Favorite Nominee: Theme from New York, New York, Frank Sinatra.
My Favorite Single That Year: Let My Love Open the Door, Pete Townshend. As great a song as he ever wrote for the Who, his best solo work, and one of his most genuinely passionate songs.
1980
Winner: What a Fool Believes, the Doobie Brothers. I'm not a fan of theirs. This is probably the one song of theirs I'd say I liked. Still, Record of the Year? Feh.
My Favorite Nominee: I Will Survive, Gloria Gaynor. I like the sweep of it.
My Favorite Single That Year: Video Killed the Radio Star, the Buggles. Another perfect pop record.
1979
Winner: Just the Way You Are, Billy Joel. It is a pretty song, however much Joel claims now that he wrote it accidentally. Is he ever going to stop apologizing for having good commercial instincts? One of his less angry songs, too. I've always liked it.
My Favorite Nominee: Baker Street, Gerry Rafferty. Or as I always used to call it, "That One with the Great Saxophone Part."
My Favorite Single That Year: Who Are You, the Who. My favorite song of theirs, for reasons I can't quite define. But it's a great damn song.
1978
Winner: Hotel California, the Eagles. I hate the Eagles, but I'll give them this one song. This is a damn good song.
My Favorite Nominee: Hotel California, the Eagles.
My Favorite Single That Year: Hotel California, the Eagles.
1977
Winner: This Masquerade, George Benson. I couldn't tell you how this goes.
My Favorite Nominee: Afternoon Delight, Starland Vocal Band. It's delightful.
My Favorite Single That Year: Somebody to Love, Queen. A beautiful epic of emotion. One of my favorite songs ever.
1976
Winner: Love Will Keep Us Together, the Captain Tennille. It's okay.
My Favorite Nominee: At Seventeen, Janis Ian.
My Favorite Single That Year: Young Americans, David Bowie. That one packs a wallop and makes "Love Will Keep Us Together" sound pretty frivolous.
1975
Winner: I Honestly Love You, Olivia Newton-John. I honestly detest this cloying, overwrought song.
My Favorite Nominee: Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, Elton John. You want passion? There you go. Skip the other song entirely.
My Favorite Single That Year: Cat's in the Cradle, Harry Chapin. Hey, hey, it's a cliched choice for a reason.
1974
Winner: Killing Me Softly with His Song, Roberta Flack. It's pretty. It's also soporific.
My Favorite Nominee: You're So Vain, Carly Simon. A nice kiss-off song.
My Favorite Single That Year: Mind Games, John Lennon. Gorgeous.
1973
Winner: The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Roberta Flack. I've always found this song kind of overwrought.
My Favorite Nominee: American Pie, Don McLean. Come on, how could you pick a different one? (Although I've always loved Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again (Naturally)," a deceptively bleak and saddening song.)
My Favorite Single That Year: Let's Stay Together, Al Green. You want to get laid? You need some Al Green music.
1972
Winner: It's Too Late, Carole King. I can't place it off the top of my head, but I've never liked Carole King's as a singer.
My Favorite Nominee: My Sweet Lord, George Harrison. It's not much of a song, really, but I didn't like any of the other nominees much.
My Favorite Single That Year: Imagine, John Lennon. I can't believe this was never nominated for Record of the Year. What the hell?
1971
Winner: Bridge Over Troubled Water, Simon and Garfunkel. An undeniably beautiful song.
My Favorite Nominee: Let It Be, the Beatles. Still Paul McCartney's most beautiful effort.
My Favorite Single That Year: Let It Be, the Beatles. Seriously, they didn't pick this?
1970
Winner: Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In, the Fifth Dimension. Definitely a good song.
My Favorite Nominee: A Boy Named Sue, Johnny Cash. It's funny and Cash delivers it well. I'll always pull for Shel Silverstein.
My Favorite Single That Year: Suspicious Minds, Elvis Presley. His final masterpiece, one of his best songs (in my top five).
1969
Winner: Mrs. Robinson, Simon and Garfunkel. Good but not really special.
My Favorite Nominee: Hey Jude, the Beatles. A masterpiece.
My Favorite Single That Year: (Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay, Otis Redding. One of the most quietly perfect songs I've ever heard.
1968
Winner: Up, Up and Away, the Fifth Dimension. What a lame choice. I mean, it's a cute song, but what a lame choice at this point in music history.
My Favorite Nominee: My Cup Runneth Over, Ed Ames.
My Favorite Single That Year: Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Frankie Valli. But that's the tip of the iceberg; this year produced, off the top of my head, "Heroes and Villains," "All You Need Is Love," "I Was Made to Love Her," "Light My Fire," "A Whiter Shade of Pale," and "(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman," and Grammy nominates "Ode to Billie Joe"? Lame, lame, lame.
1967
Winner: Strangers in the Night, Frank Sinatra. A good song, one I always liked.
My Favorite Nominee: Strangers in the Night, Frank Sinatra.
My Favorite Single That Year: Good Vibrations, the Beach Boys. Another incredible year for rock, and the Grammys can only acknowledge "Monday, Monday." What a foolish institution to pass over the greatness they did.
1966
Winner: A Taste of Honey, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. The best of the several thousand versions that seem to be out there.
My Favorite Nominee: Yesterday, the Beatles. As beautiful a song as was ever written.

Winner: The Girl from Ipanema, Stan Getz João Gilberto. A lovely little song that I've always liked as background music.
My Favorite Nominee: Downtown, Petula Clark. I forget just how beautiful this one is.
My Favorite Single That Year: Don't Worry, Baby, the Beach Boys. Perfect.
1964
Winner: Days of Wine and Roses, Henry Mancini. Nothing song from a rather turgid movie.
My Favorite Nominee: Dominique, the Singing Nun. That's painful to say, but the nominees this year are just that bad. Again, zero acknowledgement of rock and roll or even the great folk music from this time.
My Favorite Single That Year: Surfer Girl, the Beach Boys. Hey, Brian Wilson just knows how to hit me where it counts. Teenage love deified.
1963
Winner: I Left My Heart in San Francisco, Tony Bennett. A beautiful song.
My Favorite Nominee: I Left My Heart in San Francisco, Tony Bennett.
My Favorite Single That Year: Telstar, the Tornados. That one always takes me right off and makes me love being alive.

1961
Winner: Theme from A Summer Place, Percy Faith. The music is pretty.
My Favorite Nominee: Georgia on My Mind, Ray Charles. It's insane that this didn't win. This is the very definition of a beautiful song.

My Favorite Nominee: The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late), David Seville. I know, I know, but I love this song. It's a Christmas staple to me. It reminds me of being a kid and spending the lead-up to Christmas at my grandmother's house. It's a cozy song for me.
My Favorite Single That Year: Summertime Blues, Eddie Cochran. As vital a song as there is, considering how much rock continues to borrow from it. And more than that, just a catchy tune.

1962
Winner: Moon River, Henry Mancini. I'm never sorry to have heard this song. It's always beautiful, and always necessary.
My Favorite Nominee: Moon River, Henry Mancini. Infinitesimal second: "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck.
My Favorite Single That Year: Stand by Me, Ben E. King. The best time to hear this song is in the still of the deep night.
1961
Winner: Theme from A Summer Place, Percy Faith. The music is pretty.
My Favorite Nominee: Georgia on My Mind, Ray Charles. It's insane that this didn't win. This is the very definition of a beautiful song.
My Favorite Single That Year: Georgia on My Mind, Ray Charles.
1960
Winner: Mack the Knife, Bobby Darin. I like this song; it's fun as hell to sing along to.
My Favorite Nominee: Mack the Knife, Bobby Darin.
My Favorite Single That Year: Sleepwalk, Santo Johnny. Another great late night song.
1959
Winner: Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare), Domenico Modugno. Okay. I can't believe anyone does this song better than Dean Martin, personally. I don't believe I've heard this version.

Anyone can have dry skin. Regardless of gender and age, dry skin is a likely result given that the person involved lacks moisture in his or her skin. Skin dryness results from the inability of your skin to retain moisture. Characterized by red patches, flaking or scaling, and itchiness; there is a myriad of factors contributing to dry skin. Among them are dry air especially during the winter season, medications taken, and even hormonal factors.
The above-mentioned reasons explain why moisturizing your skin is a vital process you should never skip. Remember: dry skin is tantamount to having telltale signs of wrinkling, which is associated with aging. However, as easy as it may seem, choosing the most suitable moisturizer to provide you with the best skin care moisturization depends on many factors. And on top of them is determining the specific type of your skin. To determine which moisturizer would work best for you, you have to know first your specific skin type as well as its exact moisturization requirements.
Normal Skin Type
If you have a normal skin type, it means your skin is not too dry or too oily. Lucky you, for your skin has an innate moisture balance. Thus, it only requires a moisturizer for maintenance. Opt for a lightweight moisturizer with a light and non-greasy feel. Oftentimes, part of its component is a lightweight oil in the likes of cyclomethicone, ethyl alcohol and/or other ingredients made from silicone.
Oily Skin Type
As you may know by now, having oily skin makes you more susceptible to pimples and skin break-outs. Even though it is already naturally oily, it still requires moisturization. This is especially necessary after you use oil-depleting products that could cause skin dryness. Using a light moisturizer provides protection for your skin after washing. But make sure that you use a water-based product that is both light and has no greasy feel. Also, make sure that the product you will choose is certified non-comedogenic. This will keep it from clogging pores.
Dry Skin Type
Should you have dry skin, it is a must for you to put back lost moisture. Using a lightweight water-based moisturizer would not do for you. Instead, choose a heavier, oil-based moisturizer with either urea or propylene glycol. These two chemicals are proven to help retain your skin's moisture. However, if your skin is very dry to the point that it is already cracked, oils would work best. They last longer in the skin than creams. They are also more effective in keeping water from evaporating from your skin.
Sensitive Skin Type
If your skin type is sensitive; you are more prone to suffer from skin irritations, rashes, redness, and itchiness. For these reasons, you should select products that do not have allergen components like dyes/color and scents as well as those that are specially formulated for sensitive skin like yours.
Mature Skin Type
As you get older, your skin becomes more prone to dryness since your skin's oil producing glands have begun to slow down. In oder to retain the softness and moisture of your skin, select an oil-based moisturizer with petrolatum as one of its components. Alpha hydroxy acids and lactic acid are also effective. All these components help prevent your skin from becoming scaly and flaky by keeping moisture in.
Combination Skin Type
If you have combination skin, it is likely to be very oily in some areas and very dry in others. Proper moisturization is crucial in helping your skin balance out its moisture level, thus, alleviating its condition. For best results, go for a light oil-free moisturizer.

Panic attacks can be very frightening to those who suffer from them. At times, they may seem so bad that sufferers fear they may be having a heart attack or even dying. The good news is that nobody has ever died from a panic attack and the symptoms can be treated.
What are the main panic attack symptoms? There are literally hundreds of panic attack symptoms and sufferers can have anywhere from one symptom to all of them. The most common panic attack symptoms are:
·Rapid heart rate,
·Sweating,
·Trembling,
·Hyperventilation or shortness of breath,
·Chills,
·Hot flushes,
·Nausea, ·Chest pains,
·Headache or migraines,
·Dizziness,
·Feeling of fainting,
·Trouble swallowing or tightness in throat,
·A feeling as though you are going to die.
The causes of panic attacks It is not really known what the causes of a panic attack are, although it is believed that stress, hereditary and other factors can be main contributors to the condition.
It is a well-known medical fact that the body reacts to situations instinctively. A good example of this is the fight or flight response. When a person feels that they are in danger, the body instinctively speeds up the heart rate and breathing to prepare for a life or death situation. Panic attacks have many of the same occurrences, even though there is no reason for the body to have this reaction.
Using relaxation techniques to relieve panic attack symptoms:
Panic attacks can be treated with medications, such as antidepressants. But for those who are looking for a holistic approach and would like to treat or learn to control their condition naturally, the best alternative is often relaxation.
It is important to understand that relaxation is far more than just getting away from the every day stresses and putting your feet up. Relaxation is an intentional act that will bring you peace of mind.
By using relaxation methods effectively, you will be able to lessen the duration and severity of the symptoms and make them easier to live with. One useful relaxation technique is to lay in a comfortable position and concentrate on your breathing. Once you feel calm, begin to focus on the parts of your body that are tense and visualize the tension melting away.
Continue to breathe slowly and regularly and let your mind float away to a peaceful place. Make sure not to focus on thoughts or worries that may cause you tension. While you are lying there, slowly tighten one muscle at a time in your body, then release it.
To ensure that your relaxation techniques are working to help you reduce the effects of your panic attacks, revise some of the other things in your life that may contribute to your panic attacks. Make sure that you are getting enough sleep, staying away from caffeine and getting plenty of regular exercise.

Of late too, we have seen several biotech companies fail on clinical trials or run out of funding, and is there something perhaps being missed here? Is there some portion of the R and D that could perhaps be incorporated elsewhere, with another company for a simple example? Does the government really scrutinize the values of some biotechs fully, in other words is there a time to step in and through a grant offer some assistance? In short, are we perhaps losing some valuable scientific information in the process.

Most online casinos companies start with the bottom and work their way up when establishing new levels of corporate responsibility, said Popelka Vanes, an important author and consultant, and this permeates all the way to upper leadership and helps get rid of the dead wood. Moreover, by creating a unified team element in the online casinos sector, profits can reach new highs and employee morale will go to the stratosphere. I agree with Sunshine Paschall, declares Macke Cisco, our online casinos company had mediocre work ratings and efficiency, but after we developed new ethics and values, profits and production explded. Key to creating long term success in the online casinos business is developing a work force that has solid core values and ethics. No one knows this better than Gunnells Eitniear, head of HR for Broaden Frankforter and Brothers INC, a new firm in the online casinos industry. Says Gunnells Eitniear, ve noticed that over all performance and output has increased dramatically, after implementing a solid corporate mission statement and list of commandments. It has really helped these online casinos workers focus their efforts and most importantly believe in what theyre doing. We have also found that holiday bonuses are very helpful, said Orgeron Wauneka, HR director at the Koetter Bloxsom INC online casinos firm. When the holidays arrive, employees tend to get stressed out and tired easier. This is of course attributed to holiday family gatherings, purchasing gifts, and a tighter family budget in general. So, by providing online casinos workers with a bonus around the holidays, the extra stress they feel melts away and gives rise to genuine gratitude and higher productivity levels. In addition to the work by Prof. Katherina Leck, of the Glod Tapanes Research Institute, Danna Yochum also created a valuable set of tools that are key to the success of any online casinos venture. These tools, which are helpful for structuring corporate seminars and learning sessions, have beared fruit for the Fickling Kuruvilla INC. company, which showed increased returns in the past 2 quarters, after implementing mandatory online casinos ethics sessions for all employees. Moving forward, Minta Benbrook would like to see a stronger focus on the human aspect of a typical online casinos operation. Many times, we get so caught up in the numbers, we forget that our business functions on the sheer productivity of our employees, said Ardella Kaffka, CIO of Boeding Munos Partners Ltd, and when we stop and examine how things actually work on a day-to-day basis, we can find ways of tweaking operation and creating a solid morale for our company. Further, providing scheduled raises and promotions for outstanding online casinos employees avoids mind games and gets rid of the office kiss-ups. Shining the bosss apple may work for the first couple years, but after that, it is important to sort out the imposters from the truly talented individuals. This is accomplished by online casinos oriented performance reviews that focus on objective achievements within their company. This model of employment was recently adopted by Zartman Labate Corp., after attending a seminar by Hammen Deblieck, a Professor of Human Relations at Bojorquez Pfleider University. Given that fact that vacation time in the online casinos is near non-existant, Natosha Purington, author of the popular article Seven ways to increase productivity in the online casinos business, writes that rest is equally important to getting the most out of employees. Moreover, giving generous leave and vacation time helps online casinos employees decrease stress levels, provides more family time, and boosts year long efficiency to new levels once employees come back to the office after well deserved breaks. Kiara Russe also believes that structured promotion and pay rise plans help employees focus on objective goals in their careers: If you tell someone in the online casinos field that theyll get promoted sometime in the next year, it is not nearly as helpful as saying, ll get promoted in 6 months following outstanding performance reviews in your department. The latter statement gives the online casinos worker a timeline, a goal, and a reward to focus on. More research into ethics in the online casinos work place will be continued into next year. Rhoda Bradstreet, who plans to release an important study next year, will certainly help streamline efforts more. After this much anticipated release, researchers in the online casinos field at the Hayden Corn University plan to release a large work in the early fall that highlights scientific research into developing core values in the work place. This work is being touted as the best yet by many local critics, and should help the online casinos industry reach new heights. Creating solid corporate wide online casinos values also helps motivate employees to use best practices in their work, and also a sense of purpose to what they do. A truly motivated employee, says Vixay Zayas, COO of Otukolo Fransen INC., is one that likes what they do, how they do it, and why they do it. Nothing is more important in the online casinos industry than these things, and I can speak for my company when I say that establishing these values in the office boosts results tremendously.

We have just experienced an historic presidential campaign of unprecedented proportions, our economy is in peril, our military struggles to fight two wars, and our health care system is facing impending collapse. With all of these pressing issues weighing on the hearts and minds of America’s families, what seems to be on the covers of every magazine and tabloid these days? Celebrity nonsense. Does anyone really care which teen-aged pop star will give birth next? Do we need to know every happening inside the birthday party of a power-couple’s toddler? Is the diet that worked for the soap opera star really going to work for anyone else.

SGU Super Crew,
I came up with a theory the other day when thinking of perpetual motion machines. Im no physicist, and the technology and science for this is obviously years away, but Im curious as to the validity of the theory.
If you can create a perpetual motion machine you basically win life. Stop into any physics department and get your check. It is supposedly physically impossible. I was thinking about this and realized that our solar system is basically a perpetual motion machine. It exists in an environment unlike our own here on Earth, that being no gravity. This allows the gravitational pull of the Suns and planets gravity to work together to create our constantly moving solar system.
So, if we can put something into orbit around the Earth and tap into the gravitational energy it creates it would be an endless source of energy. In order for this to be effective and the energy more accessible the orbiting body would have to be rather close to the Earth. This means in order for it to balance out with Earths gravity and not just crash into the planet, it itself must also be massive. Obviously we cant have something that is the size of the Earth rotating directly around it, but mass doesnt necessarily mean big. The solution: Dark Matter. Dark Matter is super dense and all around the universe. We just need to cultivate some and put it into orbit in a controlled manner. Im thinking multiple rings surrounding the Earth each with its own globe of Dark Matter. The remnants of an extinguished sun would work just as well.
Nevermind that weve never been able to SEE or run into Dark Matter, nor is there no way as of now to cultivate sun leavings, Im the idea man. Get NASA on that other shit.
Im no expert, but Im willing to bet my life savings that this will work. But in order to cash in you have to give enough time until the technology is possible. Id say give it a good 2,000 years.
Thanks for your time and keep up the great work.
