There is also a belief that the full moon affects people. This can be explained as I believe your question can be explained, if you look for it, you will find it. It is like when you get a car, all of a sudden there are hundreds of the same type everywhere. As for your obvious self diagnosis of the kid at Virginia, I doubt he has Bipolar disorder. I understand that he was assessed but would not talk. If he were manic they would have trouble shutting him up. Have you based your diagnosis of the Virginia kid on the DSM IV 3-R or the common criteria of he did something which could be discribed as aweful or even evil, so must be mentally ill? Mental illnesses such as Schizophrenia or Bipolar are biologically based and usually easily treated with medications which are improving all the time both with how they work and with better side effect profiles.
I would rarely hear about someone with Bipolar attacking someone and then running away. That is out of 100s not 2, even if so that is a huge jump to mass murder. The ideas the kid was talking about were not about paranoid delusions, he did not think anyone was going to hurt him or he was being persecuted by some organisation, he did not have delusions of grandiosity, he was angry so far as I have heard that others had more money or whatever and he was jealous and that he was upset that he had been rejected by his girlfriend.
I am not saying that this is what you are saying at all in your question but it is a shame that when something like this happens there is a jump to say that the perpetrator is mentally ill, that all people with mental illness should be locked away and they should not have been let out anyway. I am not sure who "they" are, at ay one time 1/4 of the population has a mental illness and 2-15% depending on how you measure it have Bipolar. That is a whole lot of "they"s, you know of your aunt and your cousin but I am sure there are heaps of other people in your life who have got one or another serious mental illness getting on despite having to struggle at times that you do not know about.

I believe there is evidence showing that depression is caused by a lack of a certain chemical (I think its called serotonin(sp) but not sure) in the brain. However, this could be one of many factors that cause depression.
Going on this theory, you would take medication to replace the chemical. As far as prevention, I guess you could test for the chemical to see if it is low. Not sure if this can be done, though.

Health care has always been considered a "recession proof" profession, but that may not be the case this time around. A recent survey released by the American Academy of Family Physicians shows that patients are visiting their physicians less and less, even postponing important health screenings like Pap smears and colonoscopies. Appointment cancellations are up, as are the number of uninsured patients visiting the office. All of these trends are quite concerning to family physicians in particular since they are often the ones managing chronic conditions and ensuring patients receive appropriate screening tests. One of the most concerning stats to come out of this survey is that people are stressed out more than ever. Nearly 90% of physicians surveyed said that patients are expressing a concern over how they will pay their bills. And, 87% physicians said they are seeing an increase in patients with signs and symptoms of severe stress. As headache sufferers, you will recognize that stress can be a common trigger for headaches. It can also increase one's risk of a variety of health problems like heart disease. If you are concerned about the rising costs of health care, discuss these concerns with your health care provider and see what he or she can do to help you.

Today, the American Pain Society tried to make it clear to the FDA that while reducing/eliminating deaths related to narcotic pain medication is a noble goal, they are very concerned that in all practicality, this effort will result in increased pain for the living. The FDA is now requiring manufacturers of 24 short and long acting opioid pain medications to come up with a better plan for managing the risk of death for their customers. This program, called REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy), is meant to insure that the risks of the drugs outweigh the benefits.

Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox and Prozac are currently used by more than five million Americans. Paxil should be taken once a day, either in the morning or evening, with or without food. Paroxetine is an agent in a newer class of antidepressant medication known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, may bring relief. With depression, the most severe cognitive and behavioral malfunctions are expressed in what is called a major depressive disorder, as stated by others.

Amitriptyline review
I've been taking Xanax for anxiety (1 mg at bedtime or after not being able to get to sleep) for about 4 years, and 25 mg Elavil every morning since 2004 for chronic pain. Then I returned to the local mental health center. Cymbalta was added in the morning. Over the last couple years the doctor has "experimented" with othe meds to compliment the Xanax at night. First was Seroquel, then 50 more mg of Elavil at bedtime, then Trazadone, now nothing. As my supply of Cymbalta, Xanax, and Elavil were running out the message from the doctor thru the case worker over the phone to me was STOP the Elavil in the morning it is affecting your sleep at night. This is upsetting to me since another doctor prescribed the 25 mg Elavil in the morning to stop a daily stomach ache that lasted 3 years. I was near the end of the rope due to the pain and I had no pain medication. Why did this current doctor give me an extra 50 mg at bedtime if she now wants to stop the 25 mg in the morning with her reason being it is hurting my sleep? Quite contradictory. 50 elavil at bedtime is fine, but 25 in the a.m. is not fine. Either is hinders sleep or helps it, she can not have it both ways. I'm suspcious they are giving up on my case and want to make room for others, by trying to stop the Elavil and failing to provide samples of Cymbalta to last me until my next visit. I'm now out of Cymbalta and have to wait about 10 days to see the nurse and explain my position. What gives here?
The doctor is at a mental health center and I have to go thru channels or wait until I see her again in late Feb. I'm worried to stop the Elavil for fear of the chronic pain might return, and then a return to Elavil is not a fix the 2nd time and I have daily pain for months or years like before. I see the nurse on the 2nd and the caseworker, said the nurse "knows meds". That is about all I can do. I got maybe a 30 day supply of elavil and might have to buy off the internet. I'm scared to stop taking it. This doctor is not "respecting" what the previous doctor did when he prescribed Elavil for chronic pain. It makes no sense that my new doctor added 50 mg of Elavil at bedtime to HELP me sleep, that was stopped and now she wants to stop the 25 mg in the a.m. because it is HURTING my sleep which is 12+ hours later.

According to a recent study, set to be released at the American Academy of Neurology's (AAN) annual meeting later this year, adults who are obese may be at higher risk of developing migraine headaches. Researchers selected over 20,000 individuals and asked them if they suffer from migraines or severe headaches. They then looked at total obesity and "abdominal obesity"--a measure of how much extra weight people carry around their stomachs. The study shows that men and women with extra belly fat tend to develop migraines more frequently, especially women. This gives us yet another reason to get fit and get rid of that extra "jiggle." Interestingly, after the age of 55 obesity doesn't seem to be related to migraines at all, but the risk of other problems such as stroke and heart disease is still there, so trimming down is still a prudent thought. Big Pharma is really the drug industry. But there is actually a trade assocation, if you wish, entitled, (The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America). They will tell you that their members invested over $44.5 billion in 2007 in discovering and developing new medicines. What they wont tell you is that they are really a lobbying firm pushing made up diagnosis and their drugs as a cure. They cure nothing. They invest billions to sell trillions and then line their pockets individually with millions. These drugs come with a host of side effects that put individuals in such a drugged state that half the time they dont even notice all the side effects. I am talking about thei psychotropic drugs; their antiepressants, antipsychotics, their stimulants (psychostimulants), their hypnotics, their tranquilizers and sleeping pills.

This morning I woke up to find that after telling them a thing or two about what I thought about their shady company, they discreetly put my money back in my bank account. So now I'm happy, but want everyone to know what they really are before they make the same mistake I did.
It started with receiving an e-mail (junkmail) which I clicked on in curiosity and it took me to a no risk sign up page. 100% satisfaction guarantee (lol!)
I filled it out and then it directs you to a page to give them your credit card information for only $1.95 for membership to their site. Sounded like a good deal, so I did it. I've spent more money on mocha's at starbucks after all.
I signed up and didn't give it another thought. I have several profiles on the internet, most of them are free so didn't think this was a big deal or any different at all until..... I saw my bank statement 14 days later where they charged me $50.00!!!
for what??? I never got anything for $50.00. So after spending hours and hours and days trying to get a person on the phone for this company, I finally get a hold of someone that was very cocky and wouldn't even cancel my membership!!! She ended up hanging up on me after waiting on hold for an hour even waiting for someone to pick up. Boy then I was mad. So I called back, waited on hold forever again, and tried it all over again. I was very nice but told her that what she was saying didn't make sense. She again agrued with me about canceling my membership and the fact that they have to charge me $50.00 for nothing because they can. I finally talked this one into cancelling my account, but why did that have to be debated? I'm confused? I'm sure it has something to do with, ... oh I dunno, money maybe?
But she told me I didn't qualify for a refund because you have to do it within 14 days. I said "well isn't this day 14???" and so we argued about that for a while and finally gave up on the poor girl and hung up.
So I thought I would call back AGAIN and just talk to a manager or supervisor. I talked to a guy named Mike who seemed smug and proud of his cheating company. I said I just need to talk to a supervisor or manager please. He asked me what the problem was, so for the 3rd time, I told the problem. Then he said he couldn't help me. I said again, I just need to talk to a manager. He told me that I didn't qualify to talk to a manager. LOL! qualify. I laughed. I've never heard of having to qualify to talk to a manager LOL! So I told him if he was gonna steal my $50 bucks I think that's bought me the right to speak to a manager! he still said no, so I told him how his company was a bunch of thieves and he hung up on me. LOL.
In the end though, they gave me my money back because they knew I was right. Hollywoodprofiles.com are thieves. Beware and I hope I prevent someone else from making the same mistake that I did signing up with them in the first place.
